Security Radar: Monitoring for Intrusion by People and Animals on Railways

Millimeter – wave radar, as an important type of security radar, has significant advantages in railway security. Millimeter – wave has a short wavelength and a high frequency, which endows it with strong penetration ability and extremely high resolution. In the complex railway environment, whether facing adverse weather conditions such as thick fog and sandstorms that reduce visibility or in low – light conditions at night, millimeter – wave radar can work stably and accurately detect intrusion targets.
To more intuitively understand the application effect of security radar in railway intrusion monitoring, let’s look at some actual cases. In an open subgrade section of a high – speed railway in China, a perimeter anti – intrusion alarm system based on millimeter – wave radar and vision fusion technology was installed. The millimeter – wave radar and vision fusion terminal of this system is installed on both sides of the railway line. The effective monitoring range of a single device can reach 20 – 220 meters, and it is basically not affected by terrain undulation. The system can divide general protection areas and key protection areas according to the different areas where intrusion targets enter the railway boundary, and take different levels of alarm measures. When people or large animals accidentally break into the general protection area, the system activates a level – one alarm, indicating the importance of the situation to the staff, but it is not particularly urgent. When the intrusion target enters the key protection area, the system immediately activates a level – two alarm, which is a key event alarm information triggered by the system. At the same time, it is accompanied by audible and visual alarms, and visual evidence is collected and uploaded to timely remind the staff to go to the scene to deal with potential safety hazards. Through actual operation and inspection, this system has a very low false alarm rate, strong stability, and its performance indicators meet and exceed industry standards, providing strong protection for the railway operation safety of this section.
